Oil Painting Department was founded in 1957, and it is the most important base for oil painting teaching, scientific research and creation base in Northwest China. It is one of provincial key subjects approved by Degree Committee Office of Shaanxi Province, with mater’s and doctor’s degree awarded. It is awarded many honorary titles for provincial famous major, national feature major and excellent teaching team for ordinary colleges and universities of Shaanxi Province etc.. There are 32 full-time teachers at present, including 3 professors, 10 associate professors and two provincial famous teachers of teaching; there are 393 students at present, including 317 undergraduates, 67 postgraduate students and 9 doctor students.

Oil Painting Department is equipped with teaching and research room for classroom sketch, infrared sketch, oil painting material and skill; it is equipped with concrete expression painting studio, Chinese spirit studio of oil painting, oil painting studio for image expression, nationalization studio of oil painting, contemporary art studio and new realistic oil painting studio.

Professional talents for oil painting art suitable for demands of contemporary society and cultural development, inheriting and carrying forward Chinese excellent cultural tradition, mastering expertly basic knowledge of this subject, and having creation vigor, strong practical ability and high virtue shall be cultivated.
